Seniors, new parents and students are set to benefit from a new series of fitness initiatives to be rolled out across Melbourne, if Nick Reece is re-elected Lord Mayor.
Co-designed with Sports Aerobics legend and Team Nick Reece Council Candidate Sue Stanley, the Get Active program aims to improve physical activity and community engagement for people living in Melbourne.
We know that the healthier you are, the happier you are, but often it’s hard to access what you need when juggling busy lives. That’s why Get Active will offer a range of free, accessible activities to encourage fitness and well-being regardless of age.
Key features of the program include:
- Personalised Fitness Vouchers for Seniors: Seniors can receive vouchers for three free fitness sessions at participating gyms, tailored to their fitness levels, to help them stay active and healthy.
- Active Family Events for New Parents: Multiple monthly fitness events designed exclusively for new parents, including baby-friendly outdoor activities like pickleball and lawn bowls.
- Free Active Events for University Students: A variety of fitness activities, such as boot camps and come-try sports, will be offered throughout the year for university students residing in the City of Melbourne to help balance study with health.
The Get Active program will be further bolstered by the introduction of $2 pool entry across the City of Melbourne and free swimming lessons to help families with the cost of living and ensure more people to enjoy our pools.
Swimming in Melbourne will become more affordable than ever, and the 50,000 free beginner swimming lessons will address the crucial need for water safety education, particularly for younger residents who may not have spent as much time in the water due to COVID restrictions.
