To recognise and celebrate the massive contribution the Indian community has made to Melbourne’s cultural and economic life, Lord Mayor Nick Reece has announced he will work with Melbourne’s Indian community to establish a “Little India” precinct in the City if re-elected. 

Melbourne’s Chinatown will undergo its biggest revitalization in forty years under a re-elected Nick Reece as Lord Mayor, with a major package set to ensure it remains a vibrant and much-loved part of our great city.

The City of Melbourne’s share of the iconic Regent Theatre will be sold, with the proceeds to help deliver a vibrant new era for Melbourne’s arts and cultural scene, including millions of dollars for live music, neighbourhood theatres, local markets, and the creation of a new City Solstice Winter Festival, if Nick Reece is re-elected as Lord Mayor.

People who graffiti buildings around Melbourne may be forced to pay for the cost of the damage they cause to city property and be part of teams to clean it up, under a new plan to be rolled out if Nick Reece is re-elected as Lord Mayor.

Safety and security for Melbourne’s traders, residents and visitors will be ramped up, with new 24/7 City Safety Officers (CSOs) set to be rolled out across Melbourne’s crime hotspots and high-traffic areas, if Lord Mayor Nick Reece is re-elected.

Lord Mayor Nick Reece has announced that if re-elected, the City of Melbourne will deliver a $2 million investment to support and expand Melbourne’s beloved local festivals and community markets. 

Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone should be extended to key cultural, educational, sporting and tourism precincts around the city and concession fares should be more easily available to international students to help with the cost of living, support our small businesses, and make Melbourne even more accessible and vibrant for residents, traders and visitors, according to Lord Mayor Nick Reece.

A re-elected Nick Reece as Lord Mayor will help turbo charge the conversion of city offices to affordable homes with a series of practical changes, including slashing council rates for successful office-to-apartment conversions, that are set to create up to 4,000 new apartments right in the heart of the City of Melbourne.
